About The Position

Reporting to the Family Connection Centre (FCC) Supervisor, the Town of Canmore Summer Programs Team Leader is responsible for leading the implementation of Summer Programs to deliver safe, fun, and memorable experiences for participants. As a member of the FCC, the Summer Programs Team Leader will be responsible for assisting with planning and implementing program itineraries which provide meaningful and age-appropriate activities for children and youth in our community. The supervision and safety of participants is the number one priority. You are a confident, warm, and welcoming individual who takes initiative, but can work successfully in an inclusive and cooperative team environment. You are a positive, effective communicator, who listens actively and has the ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with clients, and internal and external stakeholders. To be the best fit for this position, you have a genuine interest in working in the human services field and supporting children, youth, and families with varying needs.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a related field such as the Human Service field and/or early child development or a minimum of one year of experience in childcare – required
  • Completion of Police/RCMP security clearance with Children Services Intervention Check - required
  • Standard First Aid and CPR level C – required
  • Ability to be flexible and versatile in changing circumstances (e.g., weather, behaviour) – required
  • Ability to participate in program activities (e.g., walking, running) – required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs – required
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other program staff, participants, and parents – required
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly – required
  • Organizational habits to understand, realistically plan for and meet deadlines, while adapting to changing demands and priorities – required

Nice To Haves

  • Training or courses in the human service field and/or child development – asset
  • Experience working directly with children, youth and/or families – asset
  • Knowledge of community social resources – asset

Responsibilities

  • Consistently go above to beyond to provide the best programming and experience for children and youth in our community
  • Seeks to understand individuals’ or parents' needs and concerns and assists them in finding the most appropriate solution or information
  • Looks at registration numbers and adjusts group sizes where possible to meet demand
  • Diffuses upset, anxious and/or angry clients and defers issues to the appropriate person for resolution if needed
  • Works effectively within a team environment to create an enthusiastic and positive environment for both team members and participants
  • Consistently demonstrates positive, effective communication skills and interactions, and proactively shares pertinent information with the teams
  • Learns the tasks and procedures of other FCC positions to provide efficient backup and development opportunities
  • Acts as a role model for children and youth and consistently demonstrates appropriate. behaviour, language, and proper hygiene
  • Provides support for the FCC team and programs for all ages
  • Create welcoming spaces to foster connection between participants
  • Behaves in alignment with Town values and workplace policies; identifies when things are out of alignment and acts as an agent for positive change.
  • Promote a positive and professional image of the Town of Canmore in all interactions
  • Is knowledgeable about and able to provide information on all Town services, and more specifically about FCC and social agency programs and services
  • Implements indoor and outdoor activities to meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of participants
  • Takes daily attendance and maintains accurate and confidential Participant Information Forms, including updating registration software with new information
  • Assists with evaluating program content and participant satisfaction
  • Maintains relationships with outside groups to provide creative programming: field trips and guest speakers, with a focus on local groups, physical literacy and activity, Indigenous perspectives, and environmental consciousness.
  • Consistently exhibits punctuality and promptness which are paramount to support the program’s success
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Benefits

  • Hourly wage for this role is $25.75 per hour
