About The Position
The Summer Nurse Extern opportunity is with the 2MESG Team at St. Luke’s South Shore in Cudahy, WI. This 28-bed inpatient unit specializes in caring for older adults, primarily patients aged 70 and above, while also serving individuals of all ages with cardiac and neurological conditions. The extern will gain experience managing a wide range of diagnoses including congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, strokes, TIAs, and seizure disorders. This role is ideal for someone looking for a dynamic environment with diverse patient needs and a strong focus on compassionate care, offering a place to grow clinical skills.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Nursing.
- Successful completion of Med/Surg 1 and Pharmacology.
- Unofficial transcript required.
Nice To Haves
- Must be able to start early June and be in Nurse Extern II role for 6-8 weeks.
- Must be able to commit to 36-40 hours/wk for the full program cycle.
- Must be able to work full-time hours earning competitive wages.
Responsibilities
- Support patient care under RN supervision by assisting with daily activities, vital signs, and medication administration while gaining hands-on clinical experience.
- Build foundational nursing skills through collaboration, observation, and participation in care planning, emergency response, and team communication.
