About The Position

The Bellingham Public Schools is seeking a Summer Music Camp Teacher for its program open to students in incoming grades 5-8. The teacher will be responsible for instructing students in various musical areas including band, chorus, ukulele, world drumming, rhythm activities, singing, and other music exploratory experiences. The camp is a one-week program designed to develop musicianship, independence, and technique.

Requirements

  • MA DESE Educators License Music grades Prek-12 required.
  • Member of Bellingham Public Schools, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Select appropriate literature and curriculum materials that develop musicianship, independence, and technique for a 1-week music program in a variety of settings: instrumental, choral, and music appreciation.
  • Differentiate instruction and coaching to accelerate learning and close achievement gaps.
  • Teach and coach students in the fundamentals of music ensemble playing - tone quality, balance and blend, intonation, tempo, articulation/diction, expression, style & phrasing.
  • As a faculty team, develop 4 independent rhythm-based lessons as integral sessions for each day of camp.
  • As a faculty team, develop 4 breathing, posture and stretching lessons as integral sessions for each day of camp.
  • Design fun and engaging lessons that encourage respect, compassion, and inclusive and team-building strategies.
  • Prepare an end of the camp narrative summary about the program, student work, areas of success and areas for improvement for the future.
  • Ensure district and school safety protocols are maintained when applicable.
  • Supervise students at arrival, dismissal and break times.
  • Follow all applicable district and school rules.
