About The Position

This summer internship offers a motivated JD student meaningful, hands-on exposure to in-house legal practice in the pharmacy industry and the opportunity to contribute immediately to strategically important legal, regulatory and corporate projects. The successful candidate will work directly alongside senior legal counsel and members of multiple business teams. The role is well-suited to a student with genuine interest in healthcare law, commercial contracting, privacy, or corporate governance, and who is looking to develop practical skills in a fast-paced, business-facing legal environment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a JD program at an accredited Canadian law school
  • 2-3 years of combined professional or academic experience relevant to legal, privacy, governance, healthcare, or pharmacy services.
  • Demonstrated interest in, or direct experience with, seniors care, pharmacy services, or the broader healthcare sector.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills; ability to synthesize complex material and communicate clearly in plain language.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities under time pressure.
  • High standard of client service and responsiveness; professional and collaborative working style.
  • Sound judgment and a problem-solving orientation; comfortable operating with some ambiguity in a lean, fast-moving environment.
  • Proficiency with standard office software; familiarity with legal research platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Commercial contracting — assist with drafting, reviewing, and organizing vendor, customer and service agreements, and developing contract templates.
  • Corporate governance & policy — assist with policy drafting, review, and maintenance; support board and committee preparation activities; conduct research on governance best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Privacy compliance — support ongoing compliance initiatives under PHIPA, PIPEDA, and related provincial health privacy legislation; assist with privacy impact assessments, policy reviews, and training materials.
  • Regulatory & legal research — conduct research on applicable federal and provincial regulatory frameworks across healthcare, pharmacy, and corporate/securities law; prepare plain-language summaries, briefing notes, and legal memoranda.
  • Special projects — provide support on strategic legal and business initiatives.
  • General legal operations — organize and maintain legal files and records; assist with drafting correspondence, presentations, and working materials; support cross-functional coordination as directed.
