The intern will join the Legal team at Takasago, gaining hands-on exposure, providing administrative support to the General Counsel and Legal Department, and supporting employees in the submission of documents for legal review. This internship offers a meaningful opportunity to understand how the legal team supports commercial and overall company initiatives by assisting in-house attorneys with ongoing legal department projects, including those related to document controls, record retention, data privacy, and contract templates commercial goals.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level
  • Ability to complete assigned projects with minimal supervision
  • Able to effectively multi-task, manage time-sensitive assignments, and complete assigned projects with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
  • Familiarity and/or experience in the proper handling and protection of confidential information
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and strong organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Organize and maintain contracts and other legal documents, as directed
  • Assist business personnel in the submission of contract and contract modifications for legal review and assist technical personnel in the submittal of invention disclosures
  • Ability to independently draft letters, memos, and email correspondence to internal colleagues as well as outside counsel law firms, as directed.
  • Review and edit documents produced by the legal department, as requested.
  • Responsible for managing legal department calendars, coordinating and facilitating meetings and web conferences, travel arrangements and expense reporting.
  • Assist in-house attorney or IP Manager, as needed, in the preparation and submittal of documents related to the prosecution of US and foreign patent applications, including but not limited to Information Disclosure Statements, Declarations, Assignments, Power of Attorney, and Patent Term Adjustment review
  • Create presentations and reports as directed
  • Organizing and maintaining documents in Legal Dept’s electronic filing system, including documents related to contract, invention/patent, and other legal department files
  • Conduct legal research and/or gather information from public sources to support in-house attorneys, as requested
  • Help coordinate with outside legal counsel and global legal department in Japan
