About The Position

The City of Marysville Summer Intern program will provide six to eight-week paid internship opportunities to high school graduates or students currently attending college that have an interest in careers in municipal government. The available internships will provide meaningful work experiences and are intended to promote career development with a hands on learning opportunity. For the summer of 2026, the City of Marysville has a total of up to six intern opportunities available in Information Services, Communications, Engineering Services, the Police Department, and Human Resources with placement to be determined based on applicant interest, education and ability. More information on the available internships is provided below and applicants will be asked as part of the application to select their department(s) of interest. Online applications will be accepted through June 21st, resume and a letter of interest encouraged.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Demonstrate an interest in local government careers.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems, networking equipment and computer management systems is helpful but not required to be considered for this opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with reviewing and updating website content to meet accessibility standards and compliance requirements.
  • Provide photography and videography support for City events, social media, and other City communication platforms.
  • Become acquainted with surveying tools, software and equipment.
  • Learn about different types of surveys and field operations.
  • Develop AutoCAD and other software skills that are essential in developing plans, project documents and reports.
  • Assist with developing plans and specifications, performing engineering calculations and preparing cost estimates.
  • Gain exposure to project management from conceptual design through project closeout.
  • Become familiar with project delivery and what steps are involved from start to finish.
  • Spend time in the field with Engineering staff to observe and inspect construction.
  • Review plans and project specifications to understand how these documents are used to ensure quality of workmanship and materials.
  • Understand the inner-working and equipment used by a contractor.
  • Work on special projects related to networking and / or computer systems.
  • Provide general Help Desk assistance.
  • Gain audio / visual experience and support a hybrid Council Chambers environment.
  • Interact with professional IT staff.
  • Perform administrative tasks that support department program areas.
  • Involve on special projects related to recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, and records management.
  • Work alongside experienced HR professionals.
  • Attend internal meetings.
  • Observe police department operations.
  • Learn more about the law enforcement environment.
  • Be mentored by trained professionals.
  • Learn about various police department functions such as crime statistics and analysis, property and evidence management, neighborhood patrol and ride-along with patrol officers, court room processes, and collision investigations.
