About The Position

Nasif, Hicks, Harris & Co., LLP was founded in 1976 and has grown to approximately 90 people, providing a full spectrum of public accounting services. The internship program offers exposure to both tax and audit departments over an 8-week period, including training courses, hands-on experience with client work, and fieldwork opportunities. Interns will be assigned a mentor for guidance and support, and the program aims to immerse them in the company's collaborative culture with one-on-one training, mentorship, and company activities.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a 4-year degree in accounting or related accounting degree.
  • Completion of UCSB ECON 136A (or equivalent) with a B or higher grade.
  • Dedication to teamwork.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Strong commitment to timely client service.
  • Enjoys problem-solving and challenging themselves.
  • Integrity.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong established roots in Santa Barbara or Ventura with the intention and desire of staying in the local area long term and working in public accounting on the Central Coast after graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Gain hands-on experience preparing tax returns and related projects for real clients under the guidance of experienced tax accountants.
  • Prepare audit documentation, perform audit planning and testing, read and foot financial statements, and conduct various other audit and attest related engagements with support and supervision.
  • Participate in training courses for tax returns (individual and business entity) and an Excel skills project.
  • Engage in a quick course on audit software.
  • Potentially gain fieldwork experience at clients' offices for not-for-profit and for-profit business entities in various industries.
