About The Position

Southern States' Summer Internship Program is designed for college students to gain experience and contribute to the company's success. The program offers competitive pay and lasts for 10-12 consecutive weeks, with 40 hours of work per week. Interns will have the opportunity to learn and engage in various functional areas within the Agronomy field, receiving on-the-job training. This program aims to help interns develop specialized knowledge, skills, and operational experience while assisting the location in meeting its objectives.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and attending a college or university.
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.50/4.00 or above.
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Able to use iPhone and iPad technology including the use of mobile applications.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be 19 years old to drive company vehicles.
  • Requires lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • May require climbing, stooping, bending, and crawling on a frequent basis.
  • Possible contact with hazardous chemicals and working in adverse weather conditions (rain, snow, cold, heat).
  • Requires physical strength and dexterity to walk, stand, bend, climb, reach, stoop, twist and lift/carry 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, and speech essential.
  • Hand coordination to use computer.
  • May require a valid driver's license.
  • While traveling may have contact with hazardous materials and drive/travel and work in adverse weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Crop scouting and tissue sampling using Winfield's NutriSolutions 360 tissue sampling phone application.
  • Submitting tissue samples to Winfield for analysis and results.
  • Gaining a general understanding of Southern States and the complexity of the business.
  • Performing duties as assigned by operations and sales under close supervision.
  • Shadowing other employees to learn techniques for delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Resolving questions and concerns with Agronomist, Agonomy Sales Managers (ASM's), and Agronomy Operations Managers (AOM's).
  • Assisting with soil sampling, making fertility recommendations, and scouting.
  • Assisting with customer calls to solicit sales, handling product questions, and making recommendations on best practices.
  • Assisting in various areas of the location while shadowing other employees to gain knowledge of working in an Agronomy environment.
  • Preparing a recap report including observations, relationship to coursework, positives/negatives, and learnings from the internship.
  • Participating in wrap-up and future planning discussions with the General Manager.
