The Santa Barbara News-Press is seeking bold, curious, and innovative early-career and student journalists for a paid summer internship. Interns will be core members of a team transforming the 157-year-old Santa Barbara News-Press into an innovative local news outlet. This role involves on-the-ground, community-driven reporting across Santa Barbara County, covering breaking news, government, business, culture, community, and enterprise. Interns will work with editors and journalists to meet deadlines, develop reporting skills, writing style, production abilities, and on-camera presence. They will have the opportunity to pitch stories, cover assigned stories, receive mentorship, editing, and collaborate on larger projects. Emphasis will be placed on cross-platform storytelling, including diverse written styles and short-form vertical video. The internship program may last up to 12 weeks, with a maximum of 20 hours per week, running from May to August.
