As a Power Systems Engineering Intern, you will contribute to the reliability of MISO’s grid by supporting power flow studies, model development, and process automation across our Planning and Operations teams. You will gain hands-on experience with industry tools like PSS®E, TARA, and EMS, and coding and automation using Python and SQL to streamline planning studies, model updates, and operational workflows. You will work on real-world projects such as contingency analysis, transmission planning studies, outage coordination automation, or reliability coordination tools, with the specific focus depending on your team assignment. These teams sit at the intersection of long-range transmission planning and day-to-day grid operations, with some roles including direct exposure to shift work and the Control Room. Interns will be paired with a manager and a mentor, connect with a cross-departmental buddy, and hear from other teams during lunch-and-learn sessions. The internship concludes with presenting project findings to department leaders and company executives.
