2027 Summer Intern - Power Systems Engineering (Graduate)

Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO)Eagan, MN
Onsite

About The Position

This internship focuses on contributing to the reliability of MISO's grid by supporting power flow studies, model development, and process automation within the Planning and Operations teams. Interns will gain hands-on experience with industry tools like PSS®E, TARA, and EMS, and will use coding and automation with Python and SQL to streamline planning studies, model updates, and operational workflows. Specific projects may include contingency analysis, transmission planning studies, outage coordination automation, or reliability coordination tools, depending on team assignment. The role offers exposure to both long-range transmission planning and day-to-day grid operations, with some positions including direct exposure to shift work and the Control Room. Interns will be paired with a manager and mentor, connect with a cross-departmental buddy, and participate in lunch-and-learn sessions. The internship culminates in presenting project findings to department leaders and company executives.
