About The Position

TKDA is seeking an undergraduate pursuing a bachelor’s degree in urban or transportation planning to join its planning team in Bloomington, Minnesota, for the summer of 2027. The intern will collaborate with architecture, engineering, and planning professionals and contribute to planning and community engagement services. The position provides exposure to the planning and design process, from community and stakeholder engagement through planning documentation.

The role is primarily office-based, with flexible or hybrid arrangements possible in some instances. The anticipated schedule is 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime, from May 25 through August 13, 2027. TKDA’s structured summer internship program includes software training, networking opportunities, mentorship, social events, and learning seminars. The hourly pay range is $20–$24, with the final compensation rate dependent on the candidate’s anticipated graduation date.

Requirements

• Be an undergraduate pursuing an accredited degree in urban/regional planning, transportation planning, or a related field.
• Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
• Have effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Have prior experience or training with ArcGIS.

Nice To Haves

• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or other graphic design applications.
• Prior experience conducting technical data research and analysis.
• Prior experience or training with 3D visualization programs, including SketchUp and Lumion.
