About The Position

This summer internship focuses on Mechanical Engineering within bp's operations, specifically in Houston, TX. The role involves integrating Mechanical, Subsea, Floating Systems, and Pipeline/Flowline Engineers to ensure the ongoing integrity of bp's facilities. Interns will participate in all stages of system design, from planning and equipment selection to specification and delivery. They will interact with contractors and production staff, providing technical guidance and assurance for Major Projects, and adhering strictly to bp’s integrity management and health, safety, security, and environment principles. The internship is part of the One Engineering program, designed to develop high-performing engineers with broad discipline experience and transferable skills to lead through the energy transition.

Requirements

  • Working toward a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Graduating between December 2027 and May 2028.
  • Current Cumulative GPA Minimum 3.0.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. with no restrictions.
  • Must be available to start a 12-week internship on May 17, 2027 or June 14, 2027.
  • Will be required to pass all background and medical checks at least one week prior to start date.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for ensuring BP’s safety standards and new environmental ambitions.

Nice To Haves

  • Opportunity to go offshore as part of development, requiring completion of specific training (e.g., HUET) and a valid TWIC card.
  • Candidates will also need to get a valid TWIC card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all stages of system design, including initial planning, equipment selection, specification, and delivery.
  • Interact on a day-to-day basis with contractors and other production staff, providing technical knowledge for guidance and assurance for Major Projects.
  • Align strictly to bp’s integrity management and health, safety, security and environment principles.
  • Concept development, system design, equipment specification, and engineering delivery.
