•Onsite

About The Position

Loft Orbital is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join its team in Golden, Colorado for Summer 2027. The intern will work alongside the Mechanical Engineering team designing and developing hardware for satellite missions, with meaningful ownership of a real engineering project. Work may span early requirements and concept development through detailed design, analysis, engineering documentation, and potentially prototyping. The intern may contribute to a new mechanical subsystem or product that could support future Loft missions. Depending on team priorities and active development work, responsibilities may include translating project needs into mechanical requirements and design constraints; developing concepts and detailed 3D CAD models; performing structural analysis and supporting design validation; creating engineering drawings with dimensions and tolerances; coordinating with electrical, systems, manufacturing, and other engineering stakeholders; supporting prototyping, manufacturing, and design iteration; contributing to engineering standards and documentation; and presenting work and key learnings at the end of the internship. The internship is full-time for 10–12 weeks in Summer 2027, on-site in Golden, Colorado. Start and end dates will be coordinated based on the student's school schedule and team availability. Hourly compensation is $30. Loft offers housing or relocation support for interns traveling from outside the local area, along with daily catered lunches and snacks.
