About The Position

The Undergraduate Summer Analyst Program at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York offers undergraduate juniors valuable work experience through dynamic, project-based assignments and professional development activities. This program fosters a cohort-based learning model with a strong sense of community, providing real-world experience to build skills and knowledge. Interns contribute to meaningful work impacting Americans, network with mission-driven colleagues, receive mentorship from experienced professionals, and gain insights from senior leaders. Junior interns work in a specific business area for ten weeks, with opportunities for collaboration. The program aims to equip students with strong skills, professional connections, and meaningful experiences for their long-term careers. The Markets Group specifically manages the Federal Reserve System's balance sheet, monitors financial market and stability developments, supports U.S. Treasury debt issuance and management, provides foreign exchange services, and offers account services to various agencies. Summer analysts in Markets may be placed in units such as Capital Markets and Institutions, Central Bank and International Account Services, Cross Market Monitoring and Analysis, Cross Portfolio Policy and Analysis, Discount Window and Collateral Valuation, International Markets, Money Markets, Mortgage Markets, or Treasury Markets, depending on business needs.

Requirements

Demonstrated interest in financial markets, economics, public policy or finance
Strong academic record
Quantitative analysis skills
Familiarity working with spreadsheets, databases, and analytical tools (e.g. Excel, SQL)
Academic exposure and/or experience in international and domestic capital markets and instruments, and US monetary policy and economics
Ability to source, prepare, and visually represent data for written reports using common tools (e.g. Excel, Tableau)
Ability to perform preliminary research and help prepare data regarding foreign and domestic markets issues
U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual status required for access to confidential supervisory information (CSI) and/or Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) information.

Nice To Haves

Programming experience (e.g. Python, R) is a plus

Responsibilities

Prepare charts, tables, graphs and other supporting documentation to be used in the research and market analysis conducted by the Group
Support senior staff with economic and financial data analysis
Help execute the Group's funds, securities, trading and settlement activities, including the preparation and maintenance of preliminary internal reports, data entry of operations results, discrepancy follow-up and resolution, and testing the implementation of new products
