The Education Equity Project (EEP) is working toward an education system rooted in racial, disability, and gender justice — one that recognizes education as a human right and honors the dignity of every student. Our team delivers comprehensive legal advocacy through direct services, policy advocacy, community education, coalition building, and strategic impact litigation. Our work is united by a commitment to anti-discrimination advocacy and expanding access to education for populations historically neglected by the system, an intersectional approach that allows us to meet the diverse needs of our clients and community. Direct services include advocacy for K–12 students with disabilities to help them access special education services and appropriate school placements, representation of K-12 students facing suspension or expulsion to help them maintain access to their education, advocacy for K-12 students experiencing discrimination and harassment in school, and advocacy for college student survivors of sexual assault and harassment. Public Counsel is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to advancing civil rights and racial and economic justice, as well as to amplifying the power of our clients through comprehensive legal advocacy. Founded on and strengthened by a pro bono legal service model, our staff and volunteers seek justice through direct legal services, promote healthy and resilient communities through education and outreach, and support community-led efforts to transform unjust systems through litigation and policy advocacy in and beyond Los Angeles.
