About The Position

The Summer Intern will work within Conference and Event Services (CES) at Carnegie Mellon University. Responsibilities include interacting with event clientele, running errands, office inventory, assisting with administrative functions in support of project and event coordination, and performing word processing and data entry. In the summer months, this position will be responsible for directing/coordinating the work of other student employees and will serve as an on-call resource to the Summer Housing Guest Services Office, including evening hours and weekends. Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram and LinkedIn is preferred. Core responsibilities include: Event Support: Prep: name badges, print signage Day of: place signage, assist at registration table, check catering orders Student Management: Review daily tasks and student progress Student staff schedules Assisting with monthly staff meetings and 1:1’s Supporting students in day-to-day tasks Assist in disciplinary conversations as needed Office Administrative Tasks: Deliveries/errands Answering phones and responding to emails Producing & updating forms Office inventory Other duties as assigned Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Carnegie Mellon University. Requirements

  • Available to live on campus from May through August, with housing provided by CES at no cost
  • Available to work 30–37 hours per week during the summer, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Able to climb stairs, navigate the Pittsburgh campus on foot, and push, pull, or lift approximately 25 pounds
  • Available to work all mandatory event and training dates
  • Capable of working independently, maintaining strong organizational skills, and communicating in a professional and cordial manner
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be enrolled and in good disciplinary standing with their university
  • Child Protection Clearances (Act 153)
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.
  • Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in customer service, event planning, supervision/leadership, and data entry
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
