About The Position

AIG is seeking Summer Interns for the Claims department to play a part in transforming how customers manage risk. This program offers opportunities to learn and grow skills and experience as a valued member of the team. The Claims teams are problem solvers, delivering technical excellence and creating an unparalleled global claims handling experience. The Claims JD Summer Intern position offers individuals with legal degrees the chance to apply their law degrees to a variety of challenging matters. AIG manages claims for clients across all industries and lines of business, providing opportunities to explore different areas and utilize legal and analytical skills. Interns will learn to manage litigation from complaint filing through appeals, evaluate claims, oversee litigation defense, assess cases, report on trials, negotiate resolutions, and present to senior management. During the 9-week program, interns will gain hands-on experience and insurance industry knowledge, working on dynamic projects with leaders. The program includes instructor-led masterclasses, sessions with senior leaders, and networking opportunities through mentoring circles, events, and volunteering. Interns may be considered for roles following the program, with the Analyst program beginning in July 2028.

Requirements

  • Candidate for a JD degree to be received no later than June 2028 (unofficial transcript required upon application).
  • Available for the complete Summer Internship Program from June 7 through August 6, 2027.
  • Summer Intern positions are in-person opportunities, requiring interns to work in the office at least four days per week.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, manage multiple priorities, and adapt in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Enthusiastic about a career in litigation.
  • Strong analytical thinkers and creative problem solvers with an interest in litigation and proven success working as part of a team.
  • Possess a powerful blend of legal acumen, analytical abilities, and communication skills.
  • Excited to learn and grow litigation acumen with hands-on experience working with outside counsel for optimal claims resolutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manage litigation from the filing of a complaint through appeals, including all steps in between.
  • Evaluate claims.
  • Oversee litigation, often managing the defense for our insureds in litigated matters.
  • Evaluate cases.
  • Report on trials.
  • Negotiate resolutions.
  • Present to senior management.
