About The Position

The Department of Enrichment and Extended Learning is responsible for the planning and oversight of afterschool, vacation, and summer learning opportunities that meet the unique needs and pathways of students attending Holyoke Public Schools. This role involves facilitating high-quality, project-based, academic enrichment activities during the Acceleration Academy. Programming is designed to accelerate student learning through engaging, standards-aligned lessons. The enrichment facilitator should be creative, engaging, and flexible in their management of students, with a clear vision for their enrichment program and demonstrated talent or ability in a specific area of enrichment programming (i.e. STEM, health/wellness, arts, dance, service learning, civic engagement, entrepreneurship, etc.). Multiple positions are available at varying HPS sites for students in grades K-5.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with urban youth required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with youth and demonstrate cultural competence.
  • Demonstrated interest and expertise in enrichment content.
  • Student-first mentality and growth mindset.
  • Ability to develop related enrichment skills in students with a strong emphasis on skills related to social-emotional learning.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plan and implement interactive, project-based learning activities that engage students in multiple modalities of learning and interest of students.
  • Submit plans for review and feedback.
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment that is appropriate to the maturity and interests of students and conducive to learning.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and – in harmony with the goals – establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
  • Consistently monitor and adjust based on feedback to better engage and meet the needs of students.
  • Guide the work of all non-certified staff in the classroom including youth development workers, paraprofessionals, and college mentors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
