About The Position

Compass Early Learning and Care (CELC) is seeking a Summer Program Educator to join their team. This role involves working with children, families, and community partners to create enriching learning experiences based on children's interests. The position is 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and will involve working with children of various age groups (Infants, Toddler, Preschool, Kinders, and School-age). Shift times will vary within the program's operating hours of 6:30 am to 6 pm.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years’ experience working/volunteering with children and youth.
  • Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards.
  • Valid certifications include a Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, and updated immunization records.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators OR has a post-secondary degree in a similar field (i.e., Child and Youth Care, Recreation and Leisure, Social Service Work, Bachelor of Education, etc.) OR is interested in pursuing their ECE diploma.
  • Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
  • Applicants must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, S.C. 2001, c. 27.
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead interest-based and play-based activities that reflect children’s unique interests to promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
  • Maintain active supervision of children while still being engaged in play.
  • Document children’s learning progress through observation, reflection, and research questions.
  • Create and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety, and well-being of children.
  • Assist the children with diapering, dressing, and eating habits.
  • Foster strong relationships with families and involve them in the learning process.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, families, and community partners to create a supportive environment.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and staff training opportunities.
  • Assist in housekeeping duties within the program.
  • Follow CELC, CCEYA, and Ministry of Education policies and procedures.
