About The Position

Compass Early Learning and Care (CELC) is seeking a Summer Cook Assistant for an 8-week contract position at their Beehive location in Campbellford, Ontario. This role is funded by Canada Summer Jobs and involves supporting the nutrition specialist in preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and collaborating with staff. The position emphasizes a perspective of equity and cultural awareness, aligning with the Canada Food Guide, Ministry of Education, and CELC policies.

Requirements

• Applicants must meet the requirements set out by Canada Summer Jobs.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
• Has experience working in a kitchen environment.
• Has experience working in a childcare or summer camp setting.
• Valid Food Handlers certificate
• Valid certifications including: Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, and Updated immunization records.
• Must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
• Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
• Must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Supporting planning, prepping and cooking nutritious and delicious meals and snacks
• Maintaining a clean kitchen space.
• Demonstrating respect for spaces by ensuring the safety and cleanliness of all equipment, dishes, furniture, and materials.
• Collaborating with the Nutrition Specialist and Educators.
• Building and maintaining relationships with staff, volunteers, students, community partners, and school staff, including principals, custodians, and teaching teams in shared spaces.
• Preparing food in consideration of children's food allergies and sensitivities.
