About The Position

The Summer Day Camp Recreation Aide will be responsible for assisting the activity center coordinator in planning and supervising various portions of the Summer Day Camp programming. The Summer Day Camp Rec Aide should also help with projects given to the children by their group leaders. The ultimate goal of the Summer Day Camp Program is for the child placed in our care to develop a strong sense of family values. A major responsibility of each staff member is to demonstrate these values as positive role models to children who may have encountered a variety of other influences in their yet-to-be-fully developed lives. To also supervise and support all sports activities and game room activities conducted or sponsored at The Salvation Army Turlock Corps Community Center.

Requirements

  • Age 18 or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • CPR and First Aid Training required
  • Comfortable teaching and leading a curriculum that is spiritually based
  • Ability to record any incidents with appropriate forms

Responsibilities

  • Be the liaison between staff, parents, and public volunteer groups when the activity center Coordinator is out of the office. This means you will have to communicate various information (i.e., schedule changes, behavior problems, program information)
  • Coordinate and implement the Christian education program.
  • In charge of organizing the material and teaching it to the children once a week, once the curriculum is selected.
  • Responsible for making sure that there all the necessary supplies for the Christian education program.
  • Help to plan and implement a disciplinary system.
  • Attend all staff meetings
  • Keep open communication with parents, summer day camp kids, activity center coordinator, and Corps Officer(s)
  • Keep current on new programs, techniques, and equipment as resources permit
  • Keep the activity center coordinator informed of activities, equipment, and facility needs
  • Ensure all equipment is properly stored at the end of each activity/program
  • Develop high-quality programs to meet the recreational needs of the community within the resources available.
  • Responsible for the children at all times during summer day camp program hours. This includes, getting to know each child and encouraging proper behavioral, at all times.
  • Recognize potential discipline problems and try to correct them before they come disruptive to the program.
  • Bring all serious discipline problems to the attention of the activity center coordinator. If results are not seen in a reasonable amount of time, parents may have to be notified and conference help to try and correct improper attitudes and behavior.
  • Responsible for helping develop and implement recreational and athletic events in conjunction with the activity center coordinator.
  • Responsible for set-up and clean-up of all areas used in programming, as needed
  • Responsible for assisting with keeping statistics of summer day camp programs, recreational programming, and events
  • Any duties assigned by the activity center coordinator and/or Corps Officer.
