About The Position

The Summer Counselor position at Brook Hill combines the roles of a summer counselor and tour guide, offering a flexible part-time opportunity to engage with international students. This role involves helping students have a memorable summer vacation by leading activities, participating in campus events, assisting with logistics, and conducting tours. The ideal candidate is energetic, personable, enjoys interacting with people from diverse backgrounds, and is comfortable being a positive and engaging presence for students. This is an hourly, part-time, and in-person position located in Queens (Jamaica), NY.

Requirements

• Knowledge of and experience with NYC subway system preferred
• Previous international experience preferred
• Athletic, musical, theatrical, and/or artistic talent and enthusiasm preferred
• A cover letter expressing interest and outlining strengths is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

• Interacting with and engaging students on campus and on excursions.
• Conducting activities and participating in on-campus events.
• Assisting with group check-ins and check-outs.
• Leading students on excursions and conducting walking and bus tours.
• Understanding, adhering to, and enforcing all Brook Hill/campus policies and procedures.
• Ensuring the safety of all participants and practicing appropriate emergency preparedness.
• Communicating Brook Hill policies and procedures to participants.
• Acting with discretion regarding participants’ sensitive or personal information.
• Organizing and delivering activities for students and their group leaders.
• Attending and participating in orientation, welcome activities, talent shows, and graduation ceremonies.
• Encouraging student participation in on-campus events.
• Setting up, leading, and tearing down recreational activities (e.g., disco, game nights, movie nights).
• Organizing and supervising sporting activities.
• Knowledgeably delivering information about local landmarks during tours.
• Comfortably navigating and leading groups on public transportation, primarily the subway.
• Conducting walking and bus tours with confidence.
• Ensuring student safety at all times, including in transit and at tourist sites.
• Coordinating logistics for excursions (e.g., communicating with bus drivers, facilitating hotel check-ins).
• Playing games and entertaining students during excursions, especially during delays.
• Responding appropriately to students’ and group leaders’ concerns.
• Engaging with students to help them improve their conversational English skills.
• Eating and conversing with participants during meal times.
• Supervising students in dining halls, activity spaces, and off-campus locations.
• Supporting logistical and organizational needs of the campus.
• Attending staff meetings.
• Assisting in administrative tasks.
• Capturing photo and video content of participants for social media.
• Using the company card appropriately and tracking spending (if applicable).
• Assisting in arrival, departure, and changeover procedures (check-in/check-out, room checks, airport pickups).
• Guiding students to campus locations and resources.
• Assisting the management team as necessary.
