About The Position

The Summer Conference Assistant (SCA) is a live-in role supporting summer housing operations within The New School residence halls, with a primary focus on serving conference guests and external groups. SCAs play a key role in ensuring a smooth, welcoming, and well-managed residential experience for a high volume of short-term guests, while also supporting a smaller population of The New School summer school students. SCAs serve as front-facing staff for The New School, delivering a welcoming, professional, and high-quality living experience for conference guests and summer residents. Staff are expected to model strong customer service, uphold university standards, and consistently demonstrate professionalism, responsiveness, and sound judgment. Through daily interactions, SCAs play a key role in ensuring a smooth, well-managed, and positive guest experience throughout the summer.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in summer classes is not required
  • Must be a current continuing undergraduate or graduate student at The New School
  • No outside employment may not exceed 15 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a knowledgeable campus resource, proactively connecting conference guests and students to university services.
  • Serve in an on call rotation, supporting those residing in the residence halls outside of traditional office hours including providing lockout response support in a timely and customer-centered manner
  • Maintain on-site presence by hosting a minimum of 20 office hours per week
  • Deliver quality customer service to all conference guest, students and campus partners
  • Respond to behavioral and crisis concerns, utilizing appropriate protocols and procedures.
  • Perform administrative duties and hall operations, including verification of occupancy, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, and assisting with ID card distribution and access tracking
  • Coordinator and support check-in and check-out processes, ensuring welcoming, smooth and organized transitions for all guests and residents.
  • Conduct room inspections and space to maintain facility readiness.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to summer conference guest and residential student inquiries, both in person and through communication platforms.
  • Support coordination between University Housing, Facilities, and Residential Education
  • Occupancy verification
  • Support students and external groups moving in and out of the residence halls
  • Other duties as assigned
