About The Position

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students. The Summer Component Teacher will tutor summer component Upward Bound participants, assist with providing supplemental and intense interventions, serve as residential assistants during the residential week, supervise participants, attend daily debriefing meetings, and communicate with participants to encourage the continuation of secondary and post-secondary studies. The role requires maintaining knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Previous experience working with disadvantaged students is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
  • Tutor summer component Upward Bound participants as needed.
  • Assist summer component teachers with providing supplemental and intense interventions to Upward Bound participants.
  • Serve as residential assistants during the residential week of the summer component.
  • Supervise UB participants during the summer component.
  • Attend daily debriefing meetings with the residential group.
  • Communicate with participants to encourage the continuation of secondary and post-secondary studies.
