About The Position

The Northwest School is an independent day and boarding school. We serve students in grades 6 to 12 on an urban campus in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Summer Camp at Northwest is fun and engaging and offers a variety of classes. At The Northwest School Summer Camp, 10- to 16-year-olds from across the world join their peers from Seattle to have fun, make lasting friendships and become global citizens. We hire teachers in areas of STEM, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Athletics, and ELL speaking and conversation. Teachers attend a required Orientation on July 1st & 2nd and Camp runs July 6th – August 14th, 2026. Essential Functions: Teach camp classes – 3 90-minute classes per day for 2 weeks for 3 two-week sessions. Plan curriculum and lesson plans for assigned class(es) Attend all assigned camp sessions, orientation, and possible clean-up day Supervise students before a.m. classes or after p.m. classes for 30 minutes, and during the 1-hour lunch break period as assigned Assist with additional cleaning or supervision duties as assigned Class opening: Makerspace and Robotics – lead students using 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics, and electronics. Daily Schedule: Camp is open 8:30-4:30. Classes run 9:00-4:00 with a lunch break from 12-1. Full time teachers lead 3 classes, with one prep period and are asked to be available to help out with other camp duties for one prep period per week. 2-3 days per week teachers have some responsibility during the lunch hour.

Requirements

  • All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the school's mission, values, and philosophy, especially related to diversity and the environment
  • Experience teaching students aged 10-16 (4th-10th grade) in assigned subject (specific subjects are listed below), especially in a mixed-age environment
  • Experience in group management, pedagogical tools, and subject matter
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain (opportunity for training during orientation)

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience in target field
  • Formal education or professional training in target field
  • Experience teaching ELL and international campers, fluency in a second language a plus
