About The Position

Summer Camp Support Staff work at Camp Horizons in a range of support roles. Media Specialists document camp life through photography, make images available to parents through the online parent portal twice daily and social media, and create slideshows and social media posts. They also participate in a week-long staff training before campers arrive, build rapport with campers and parents, instruct in the Creative Arts department, act as role models, and substitute as cabin leaders.

Housekeeping Support works with the year-round housekeeping team on camper and staff laundry, cleaning public spaces, keeping camp orderly, and other housekeeping duties. This is an on-site role without direct camper supervision. Kitchen Support assists the year-round culinary team with food preparation and safety and helps provide meals for campers and staff. This is an on-site role without direct camper supervision. Facilities Support works with the maintenance and facilities team on landscaping, refilling camp water stations, ongoing projects, keeping camp orderly, and other facility duties. This role is not on-site housing and does not involve direct camper supervision.

The support staff season runs June 6 through August 14, 2027. Staff generally work six days per week, with two hours off each day and 24 hours off each week. Part-time hours are available for individuals who do not live on site. Compensation is based on a flat summer contract rate calculated according to the agreed number of work weeks and applicable active certifications. Payment is made through biweekly stipends, with the remaining contract balance and any certification or additional payments paid at the end of the summer or another previously agreed end date. The listed base summer contract rate for first-year general counselors/support staff is $2,900 based on 10 weeks; hourly options are available for part-time Facilities and Housekeeping staff.

Requirements

• Applicants must submit an application and successfully complete the screening and interview process.
• Applicants must pass a criminal background check and sex-offender registry check.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Staff must obtain training or certifications required for their desired position before arriving at camp.
• Staff must work the required dates, including pre-camp staff training.
• Staff work six days per week, with two hours off each day and 24 hours off each week, unless working an available part-time schedule.

Responsibilities

• Media Specialists create slideshows and social media posts and contribute images for marketing and promotional use.
• Media Specialists participate in pre-camp staff training, build rapport with campers and parents, instruct in the Creative Arts department, serve as role models, and substitute as cabin leaders.
• Housekeeping Support handles camper and staff laundry, cleans public spaces, helps keep camp orderly, and performs other housekeeping duties as needed.
• Kitchen Support assists with food preparation and food safety and helps provide meals for campers and staff.
• Facilities Support performs general landscaping, refills water stations, supports ongoing camp projects, helps keep camp orderly, and performs other facility duties as needed.
• Staff work the required season dates and attend pre-camp staff training as applicable to their role.
