Camp Horizons hires international staff for summer camp roles, primarily as counselors. International staff must obtain a legal U.S. working visa and are hired through listed international staff recruitment agencies. Staff must be at least 18 years old, at least one year out of high school, complete the application and screening/interview process, obtain any required training or certifications before arrival, and work the required dates, including pre-camp staff training. Counselors live in cabins, teach activities, and help lead camp-wide programs. They act in place of parents by supporting campers’ personal care, cabin responsibilities, safety, health, and wellbeing. Counselors teach new skills, help campers improve, encourage teamwork, and supervise campers in activities. Areas include aquatics, creative arts, performing arts, equestrian, outdoors, natural world, and sports. Training is provided. Certain roles require or prefer current certifications from reputable, nationally recognized providers. Employment dates are May 30 through August 14, 2027, for leadership staff, and June 2 through August 14, 2027, for non-leadership staff. Staff work six days per week, with two hours off each day and 24 hours off each week. Compensation is a flat summer contract rate based on agreed work weeks and relevant active certifications. It is paid through biweekly stipends, with the remaining balance paid at the end of the summer or an agreed end date. First-year international staff compensation is determined by their visa-coordinating agency. Listed base summer contract rates include $4,015 for activity leads, $4,510 for coordinators, and $2,900 for support staff; seasonal directors’ pay is commensurate with certifications and experience. Additional weekly pay is listed for village or leadership camp lead roles and certain certifications.
