About The Position

The Valentine Parker Jr Youth Prevention Center and the Four Hills of Life Wellness Center are seeking motivated and self-directed individuals to serve as Summer Camp Interns. These interns will play a crucial role in designing, delivering, and supervising summer camp programs and activities for youth. The role involves teaching, coordinating, and supervising activities, guiding campers in personal growth, managing groups, maintaining daily records, and assisting with supervision during program hours, including evenings and weekends. This opportunity is ideal for college students studying education, physical education, exercise science, sports medicine, kinesiology, strength and conditioning, coaching, recreation, or related fields, offering valuable work experience while contributing innovative ideas to the centers' programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED.
  • Willingness to design and deliver programs and activities and actively engage with program youth.
  • Mental and physical capacity to observe, interact, and communicate with youth, staff, parents, community members, and leadership to ensure safety.
  • Willingness to provide guidance and reflection related to program goals and outcomes.
  • Willingness to provide constructive feedback during feedback sessions.
  • Proficiency in documenting and maintaining accurate records of activities.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, professionalism, and strong work ethic.
  • Time-management and organizational skills to work scheduled shifts and complete assigned tasks or projects within deadlines.
  • Must pass background check, physical, and pre-employment drug screen.

  • Successful Previous Experience Working At the Prevention and/or Wellness Center.
  • Able To Work, Play, and Interact With Youth (K-12th Grade) In Gym, Activity, and Pool Settings.
  • Preferred: Valid driver's license and eligible for tribal insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Be a role model to youth.
  • Collaborate with the team to create activities promoting healthy lifestyles, positive social interactions, healthy relationships, and improved self-confidence.
  • Develop, organize, facilitate, and supervise daily activities including recreational, physical fitness, games, arts and crafts, dance, cultural activities, strength and conditioning, speed and agility, sport-specific skill development, and nutrition.
  • Encourage member engagement and healthy relationships by greeting youth, participating in activities, fostering group interactions, and ensuring fair treatment.
  • Enforce rules consistently, model positive behaviors, and serve as a friend and mentor.
  • Ensure the safety and security of youth within the facilities.
  • Assist in overseeing daily operations of recreation areas, maintaining safe equipment, cleaning facilities, and displaying appropriate signage.
  • Administer first aid or refer injured youth to physicians as needed.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, incident reports, and activity assessments.
  • Participate in regular feedback sessions to discuss daily interactions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist with the maintenance, upkeep, and storage of program equipment and supplies.
  • Perform daily housekeeping duties to ensure clean and sanitary facilities.
  • Maintain regular and punctual working hours.
  • Perform daily assignments with limited personal cell phone usage.
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
