About The Position

The Summer Associate position is a full-time internship consulting staff position within the BRG Corporate Finance practice. This practice specializes in providing strategic, operational, and financial advice to private equity firms, management teams, boards of directors, investors, hedge funds, and other lenders or companies that are either underperforming or in transition. The practice has in-depth experience across a wide range of industries and markets, including retail, consumer products, financial services, healthcare, energy, and technology. BRG has experienced professionals who understand the challenges clients face across sectors. The five core service offerings include: Turnaround & Restructuring (T&R), Strategic Performance Solutions (SPS), Retail Performance Improvement (RPI), Transaction Advisory (TA), and Transaction & Valuation Opinions (VAL). The BRG Turnaround & Restructuring practice is seeking to add professionals due to client demand and market opportunities. The ideal candidate should be prepared to work in a team-oriented environment on a diverse range of turnaround advisory assignments. Articulating findings and recommendations around the key financial, business issues, and value drivers are critical components for this position. The work of a Summer Associate will largely be quantitative in nature, but will require qualitative aspects as well. Projects will include database creation and analysis, financial modeling, industry and subject-matter research, data collection, reconstruction of accounting records, benchmarking, valuation and tax related work, and other forms of analysis. This position is located in the Salt Lake City office and offers advancement opportunities within a rapidly growing expert services and consulting firm.

Requirements

  • Three-statement financial modeling, including scenario planning
  • Financial planning & analysis
  • 13-week cash flow modeling
  • Chapter 11 process
  • Transactions, including sale of assets or businesses
  • Progression towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • An undergraduate level understanding of accounting is required.
  • Education path that qualifies candidate to sit for the CPA exam.
  • Proven capability with MS Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize changing work demands and learn quickly
  • Candidate must be able to submit verification of his/her legal right to work in the United States, without company sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • 0 - 2 years of prior work experience preferred.
  • Experience with relational database program(s) (e.g., MS SQL Server, MS Access, MySQL, Oracle, Teradata) and an interest in forensic accounting a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain electronic databases, spreadsheets, and other files as dictated by project needs.
  • Perform detailed research and analysis, then put the results into action (e.g., gather, review, and summarize literature and data from the public domain, specialized industry resources, or client, public, and commercial databases).
  • Assist with document management and conduct queries from matter records in order to track document production and to identify relevant case documents.
  • Demonstrate creativity and efficient use of relevant software tools, analytical methods, and computer models to develop solutions.
  • Review own work product and work product of others to assure quality.
  • Participate in a team environment and work hard to meet client deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Assist in preparation of reports, written analyses, presentations and other client deliverables.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, ethics, quality, and integrity.
  • Participate in group practice meetings and travel as needed.
