About The Position

The Accounting and Finance Development Program (AFDP) at Walmart offers exceptional students with leadership potential a highly developmental summer internship. This program provides a unique opportunity to jump-start a post-college career, with the potential for a full-time position in a rigorous two-year rotational program upon graduation. Each year, only the top candidates are selected for this accelerated development program, placing their careers on a fast track at the world's largest retailer. The AFDP has two distinct tracks: Finance & Strategy, and Accounting. Finance & Strategy track participants will support areas such as Strategy, Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Marketing, Real Estate, and Forecasting, Planning & Analysis (FP&A). Accounting track participants will be placed in a Controllership or Audit team. The internship is a fast-paced 10-week program where interns work on challenging, innovative, and strategically relevant projects. They will be immersed in the regular activities of Commercial Finance, Controllership, or Audit teams, gaining broad finance and/or accounting experience. Interns will take ownership of a project, present to executive leadership, and participate in case study workshops/competitions. The program invests in skill development, including critical thinking, business learning, exposure to top executives, and mentoring, all while fostering a fun environment. Successful completion offers a direct opportunity to secure placement in the full-time program.

Requirements

  • Students pursuing a BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business, Strategy or other business-related fields.
  • Graduating in December 2027 or May 2028.
  • All internship placements will be based in Bentonville.
  • All internships are paid.
  • A successful candidate will not require sponsorship from Walmart for authorization to work now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • 3.0 GPA or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support areas such as Strategy, Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Marketing, Real Estate, and Forecasting, Planning & Analysis (FP&A) within Commercial Finance.
  • Work within Controllership or Audit teams.
  • Complete challenging and innovative, strategically relevant projects that drive the business forward.

  • Participate in leadership development, professional mentorship, and technical training.
  • Experience culture-in-action by participating in the Walmart Annual Shareholders’ Meeting and other events.
  • Develop life-long relationships with other interns through company-wide events, community volunteering, distribution center tours, store tours, community events, and an annual intern softball game against executives.
