About The Position

The Student Center Tutoring Specialist shall report to the Academic Success Center Coordinator. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Meet tutoring and learning needs of students. Review classroom or curricula topics and assignments Assist students with skills such as note taking, time management, paper writing, organization, etc. Work with the Success Center Coordinator to align Learning support services. Conduct academic workshops. Assist with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks. Conduct online educational tutoring through various platforms. Help students review class assignments, review examinations and prepare for tests both inside and outside the classroom. Responsible for helping students learn and understand new concepts and complete assignments. Prepare lessons by studying lesson plans, reviewing textbooks in detail to understand the topic they will be teaching and providing additional projects if needed during a session. Ultimately, you will work directly with students to assist them in gaining a better understanding of concepts taught in the classroom. Assist in providing support for all activities associated with the Academic Success Center, including retention activities. Guide students through problem-solving techniques. Conduct individual and small group tutoring. Coordinates with classroom professors to develop real-time tutoring and may attend classes as assigned. Communicate with students to track progress, provide feedback, and address any challenges they face. Assist the Coordinator in the measurement of data and assessment of future goals. Actively participate in institutional goals and objectives designed to support the mission of the college. Contribute to student learning, growth and advancement May serve on various campus committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned or required. Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proven work experience as a Tutor or similar role.
  • Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable and cooperative with a sense of humor.
  • Ability to take supervision and correction constructively.
  • Ability to positively supervise students.
  • Knowledge of College and department policies and procedures.
