About The Position

This position is for a Subsystems Manager – Human Lander System (HLS) Lighting and Imagery within the JETSII Contract, supporting NASA's human space exploration initiatives. The role involves providing expertise and engineering support for the HLS Computer-Human Interface (CHI) in the domains of lighting, imagery, cameras, and controls. The manager will support the design, development, and testing of these subsystems, facilitate engagement with NASA Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and perform integrated analysis of CHI subsystem hardware. Key responsibilities include managing CHI imagery and lighting requirements, tracking design changes, identifying and communicating technical risks, and providing subsystem management support to the NASA Systems Manager. The role also requires proactive communication with adjacent NASA programs, maintaining effective working relationships with diverse technical teams, and preparing technical briefings. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for working in a highly integrated, multi-disciplinary team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Computer Engineer, or closely related) from an accredited engineering.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in engineering or systems engineering.
  • Experience with design, development, integration, and testing of avionics systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of spaceflight hardware and subsystems.
  • Experience with spacecraft/satellite lighting, imagery, cameras, and/or controls.
  • Experience with certification of aerospace systems.
  • Experience with human-rated space vehicles design and certification.
  • Knowledge of NASA Systems Engineering and Design Review processes.
  • Experience using Ai tools (ex: CoPilot, Gemini, Grok, SuperGrok).

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise and engineering support for the HLS Computer‑Human Interface (CHI) in the domains of lighting, imagery, cameras, and controls.
  • Support design, development, test of HLS lighting, imagery, camera, and crew‑vehicle control subsystems.
  • Facilitate engagement of NASA Subject Matter Experts (SME's) across CHI domains.
  • Perform integrated analysis of CHI subsystem hardware, including interactions with other HLS systems, the operational environment, and interfacing spacecraft.
  • Manage CHI imagery and lighting requirements and verification activities, including requirement decomposition and technical assessments.
  • Continuously evaluate and track impacts of HLS design changes, provider updates, and NASA decisions as they relate to lighting, imagery, cameras, and control elements.
  • Identify, document, track, and communicate CHI technical risks and status throughout the HLS development lifecycle.
  • Support and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide HLS CHI subsystem management support to the NASA Systems Manager.
  • Facilitate proactive communication, coordination, and integration with other CHI‑adjacent NASA programs that influence HLS subsystem design.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with diverse technical teams, including engineering, management, safety, flight operations, the crew office, and provider organizations.
  • Prepare and deliver technical briefings, progress updates, and schedule status to management and external partners.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support CHI subsystem development.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in a highly integrated, multi‑disciplinary team environment.
