About The Position

A Substitute assists in the day-to-day operation of a Head Start center in various capacities, including but not limited to classroom, food service, or family service assistance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
  • Previous work with children ages 0-5

Nice To Haves

  • CDA credential preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning daily lessons and activities. Assume major classroom responsibilities as requested and as expertise is gained.
  • Keep parents informed through conferences, letters, newsletters, anecdotal notes, and telephone calls.
  • Assist with preparation and cleanup of all meals; eat meals with the children.
  • Assist in all cleaning duties of both the classroom and the center as requested or required.
  • Provide food service assistance in the absence of the Food Service Technician.
  • Assist with parent meetings or trainings.
  • Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training, and conferences as assigned. This includes local, state, regional, and national groups, as well as pre-service and in-service training.
  • Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency and submit necessary documents to the Finance Department.
  • Comply with all Head Start Performance Standards, Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and Mid-Cumberland Head Start Policies and Procedures, and other applicable Early Childhood Standards such as DHS Licensing Standards and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
