About The Position

As a Substitute Youth Development Professional (Sub-YDP), you will have the opportunity to directly contribute to the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro. You will foster a safe and enriching space that promotes curiosity, creativity, and positive relationships. This role offers hands-on experience in early childhood development, the chance to work with a diverse and supportive team, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact during a critical stage of a child’s growth. You will step into a variety of vibrant after-school environments, lead fun, hands-on activities, encourage positive relationships, and help kids develop social-emotional skills. The role offers flexibility to work across multiple school sites within the San Lorenzo, San Leandro, and New Haven Unified School Districts.

Requirements

2 years of professional experience working with youth.
Must be at least 21 years or older to apply.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to connect in an authentic way with a diverse group of youth.

High school diploma + 48 college semester units (˜ 2 years college), OR
High school diploma + an Associate’s (or higher) degree, OR
High school diploma + a passing score on the district’s Paraeducator/Paraprofessional Exam (may be obtained within 30 days of hire).
Negative TB screen required.

Nice To Haves

Multi-conversational language skills (Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Tagalog).
Experience, education, or coursework in Early Childhood Development, Education, or related fields.

Responsibilities

Ensure a safe and nurturing environment for youth participants.
Lead engaging after-school programs and activities for a group of approximately 20 students.
Facilitate lesson plans and activities that promote personal growth, educational achievement, and character development.
Establish classroom rules and behavior.
Provide for children's basic needs and ensure supervision.
Adapt teaching methods to children's interests and learning styles.
Manage classroom activities, lessons, play, breaks, and meals.
Track children's progress and communicate effectively with parents and teachers.
Maintain a clean and organized classroom.
Serve as a positive role model and mentor to young participants, fostering their self-esteem and personal development.
Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and respected.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure program goals are met and share best practices.
