About The Position

A substitute teaching assistant is responsible for assisting the classroom teacher with providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teaching assistant. Substitute teaching assistants must assist with maintaining classroom control and discipline. In some cases, substitute teaching assistants may be required to complete a daily report or evaluation to communicate any pertinent information resulting from the day's events. Substitute teaching assistants must have teaching capabilities and be able to follow oral and written instructions. Establishing effective working relationships with staff and students is very important.

Requirements

  • New York State Teaching Assistant Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the classroom teacher with providing instruction.
  • Managing the classroom environment.
  • Promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teaching assistant.
  • Maintaining classroom control and discipline.
  • Completing a daily report or evaluation to communicate any pertinent information resulting from the day's events.
  • Monitoring instructional programs.
  • Maintaining an effective, safe learning environment for all staff and students in the absence of the Teaching Assistant.
  • Keeping the Superintendent informed of the school's problems, if any, to report.
  • Maintaining high standards of student conduct and maintaining student discipline.
