About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for K-12 schools in China Grove and the surrounding San Antonio, Texas area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers choose assignments and locations and may work up to five days per week. Start and end times vary by school; most assignments begin between 7:00 and 8:00 AM and end between 3:45 and 4:45 PM. Schools may have earlier or later needs, and the schedule is provided before an assignment is accepted.

Substitute teachers lead classrooms and help create safe, supportive learning environments. They may also support the campus throughout the school day with duties such as lunch and recess supervision, hall and bathroom monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Compensation is $140 per day for daily assignments and $172 per day for long-term assignments, with weekly paychecks. Kokua offers access to its support team every day from 6 AM to 8 PM, and out-of-pocket costs are reimbursed after 10 teaching assignments.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience working with students in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, coaching, or camps.
• At least 48 college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Fluent English reading, writing, and speaking ability.
• Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
• A strong belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
