About The Position

The Ohana teacher is responsible for encouraging, nurturing, and educating children through problem-based learning while encouraging positive interactions among children. Ohana Institute teachers must have patience, compassion, responsibility, organizational skills, and a strong background in the area they are responsible for. Teachers prepare daily educational opportunities for their students. This position requires excellent communication skills to teach children and update parents on their child's progress. An ideal candidate will have competence, confidence, enthusiasm, coherence, thoughtfulness, creativity, and a willingness to engage and play with their students to encourage creative learning opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher, ideally in Elementary Education or related field
  • Institute teachers must receive their certification prior to employment. Requirements vary by state.
  • CPR Certified
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, walk, and sit on the floor.
  • Must actively engage with students during educational activities, including travel, community service, and outdoor learning on a large campus.
  • General Technological Literacy.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, willing to learn new technology programs
  • Excellent communication skills: Institute teachers must be excellent communicators, being able to take prospective parents on a tour confidently, create newsletters, send emails, make phone calls, and assist the director with school functions and obligations.
  • Good crisis management: An Institute teacher must have strong crisis management abilities, be able to remain cool and composed, and provide instruction in a crisis.
  • Classroom experience: Teachers need to know how to handle a group of children, understand childhood development, and have the know-how to establish classroom structure.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and develop engaging activities and curriculum.
  • Create and maintain a structured daily schedule for children.
  • Track each child's progress, interests, and concerns.
  • Design hands-on activities to enhance student learning.
  • Supervise and interact with children during recess, including structured games or free play.
  • Ensure positive interactions and resolve any disputes between children.
  • Provide first aid when necessary. Document the incident.
  • Comfort children during upset moments or disputes.
  • Arrange and supervise quiet time for children.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of interactive spaces.
  • Maintain contact with parents during emergencies and provide progress updates.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and organizing special events.
  • Respond promptly to parent inquiries.

Benefits

  • The salary rate for this position is $25.00 per hour.
