About The Position

The substitute teacher monitors students and their learning when the regularly scheduled teacher is absent. The role maintains a positive classroom learning environment and facilitates lesson plans left by the regular teacher. Candidates should be able to follow directions, hold students accountable, and show enthusiasm for education and learning. Substitute teaching serves students across grade levels in an Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic elementary and middle school.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in a comparable field.
Experience teaching through remote learning platforms.
Valid state teaching licensure; out-of-state teaching licenses are accepted.
One to three years of teaching experience.
High school graduate.

Responsibilities

Implement the regularly scheduled teacher’s lesson plans and instructions, or consult with the principal or other relevant staff if no lesson plan is provided.
Maintain a clean, respectful, and orderly classroom and follow school-directed classroom and school procedures.
Maintain records and draft notes on attendance, pertinent inquiries, and incidents.
Follow and enforce classroom and school-campus rules, policies, and procedures.
Ensure the safety of students.
Work with a diverse student population across all grade levels.
Communicate comfortably, both orally and in writing, with students, parents or guardians, administrators, and others.
Actively support the mission of the school.
