About The Position

Carolina Day School has openings for substitute teachers in its Upper School Division, teaching grades 9–12. The substitute teacher operates a safe, orderly, and positive classroom while the regular teacher is absent. The role includes managing the classroom and providing instruction by following the regular teacher’s lesson plans and Carolina Day School’s policies and procedures.

Requirements

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
• Criminal background check.
• Drug test.

• Work experience in schools is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide meaningful instruction to students in assigned classrooms while the regular teacher is absent.
• Review and implement the regular teacher’s routines, procedures, lesson plans, curriculum objectives, classroom management, and instructional strategies.
• Establish and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment, taking reasonable precautions to protect students, facilities, and materials.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
• Report student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and serious discipline problems to school administration as soon as possible.
• Maintain working knowledge of and adhere to Carolina Day School policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate cooperation and flexibility in performing other related duties as assigned by school administration.
