About The Position

North Hudson Academy is seeking a full-time High School Social Studies Special Education Teacher to work with students ages 3 through 21 in a New Jersey Department of Education-approved private special education school serving students from PreK through high school. The school specializes in programs for students with behavioral and emotional issues, preschool handicaps, and students on the Autism Spectrum. The teacher delivers standards-based social studies instruction, implements IEP goals, manages classroom behavior, and supports students with emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs in a structured educational setting. The position is part of the Instructional team and reports to the school principal. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. The position is exempt and based at North Hudson Academy in North Bergen, New Jersey. Compensation is $61,000–$80,000 annually.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree or higher in Education, Special Education, Social Studies, History, or a related field.
Successful completion of Praxis testing.
Experience working with children with disabilities.
Ability to read, write, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

Special Education certification, Teacher of the Handicapped certification, or experience teaching students with disabilities is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Plan and carry out the IEP and instructional program for individual students.
Plan and manage the school's therapeutic approach to individual and group discipline.
Coordinate and schedule activities with other staff.
Maintain and inventory classroom supplies and instructional materials.
Keep required records.
Write reports, meet with parents and professionals, and share professional information about individual students as required.
Participate in school meetings, conferences, and in-service activities.
