About The Position
The Montclair Cooperative School is seeking Substitute Teachers, After School Assistants, and Before School Assistants for the 2026–2027 school year. The school is a private progressive, independent school in Montclair, New Jersey, serving students from age 2.5 through eighth grade. Its mission is to nourish each child’s talent, develop intellectual ability, and encourage emerging social responsibilities. Substitute Teacher candidates should have previous experience teaching, working in a school, or working with children in programs such as camps or childcare. The ideal candidate is positive, fun, flexible, open-minded, patient, has a good sense of humor, and takes a genuinely child-centered approach. Substitute teachers should be self-starters who can independently lead a class using a provided plan or work in partnership with an assistant teacher. The position is temporary and pays $126 per day or $18 per hour.
Requirements
- Two years of childcare experience.
- Two years of experience working with children.
- Ability to reliably commute to or relocate to Montclair, NJ 07042 before starting work.
Nice To Haves
- High school education or equivalent.
- Past experience as a teacher, in a school setting, or in a program with children such as camp or childcare.
- A positive, fun, flexible, open-minded, patient, child-centered approach and a good sense of humor.
