About The Position

Kokua Education is seeking passionate individuals to become substitute teachers in the Brownsville and surrounding Rio Grande Valley area for the 2026-27 school year. This part-time role offers the flexibility to set your own schedule, earn up to $145 per day, and make a significant impact on students' lives. As a substitute teacher, you will be a positive role model, sparking a love for learning and helping students realize their potential. Kokua Education, founded by a former teacher, connects talented educators with K-12 schools, building a diverse network of substitute teachers who are pivotal in their communities.

Requirements

At least 1 year working with kids in any setting (classroom, tutoring, coaching, etc.).
Completed 48+ college credit hours.
Confident in managing a classroom of students.
Willing to step in where needed (lunch/recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, proctoring).
Pass state & federal background checks.
Believe every child has a unique & powerful gift to share with the world.

Nice To Haves

High School/GED, 48+ college credits, and Associate’s degree for up to $117 per day.
Bachelor’s and Master’s/Professional (MBA, JD, M. Ed, etc) degree for up to $145 per day.
Desire to make a real difference in the community.
Interest in creating powerful moments that shift students’ perception of what’s possible.
Ability to teach close to home in K-12 schools across the Rio Grande Valley area.
Interest in paving pathways for generations to come.

Responsibilities

Manage a classroom of students.
Step in where needed, including lunch/recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
Cover lesson plans and act as a role model for students.
Add representation by sharing unique experiences with children.
