About The Position

The Substitute Teacher at Hope Learning Academy Springfield ensures that the school day and staff interactions promote students’ physical, social, behavioral, academic, and emotional development. The role supports educational routines with functional, age-appropriate activities in an environment that meets each student’s safety and health needs. The Substitute Teacher implements students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supports learning activities and curriculum, supervises classroom paraprofessionals, and completes required documentation. The role also includes mandated reporting responsibilities, protecting client rights and confidentiality, and attending required training.

Requirements

Valid Illinois Teaching Certificate or Type 39 Certificate.
Successful background clearance, physical, and drug/alcohol screening.
Ability to meet all licensing standards of the Department of Human Services and the Department of Child and Family Services.

Responsibilities

Ensure that students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are implemented.
Ensure educational lessons, activities, programs, and curriculum are functional and age-appropriate and promote each student’s desired outcomes.
Supervise classroom paraprofessionals to ensure programs, schedules, and activities are implemented properly.
Ensure classroom paraprofessionals complete required daily documentation for each student.
Complete required reports and other documentation accurately and promptly.
Use appropriate materials, devices, and equipment for educational activities.
Manage the classroom in a way that fosters a positive, professional, and educationally stimulating atmosphere.
Act as a mandated reporter regarding purported abuse or neglect of clients, as outlined in agency policies and procedures.
Help ensure compliance with client rights and program delivery requirements under applicable Illinois mental health, confidentiality, and child care laws.
Attend required training.
Perform other duties reasonably within the scope of the role.
