About The Position

The On-Site Substitute Teacher works at Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers, Florida, and reports to the Principal. This salaried, exempt position is full-time at 37.5 hours per week. The role supports student learning by providing instruction and assistance in accordance with the Teacher’s direction and instructional guidelines, while helping maintain classroom order and supervise students throughout the school day.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 1–3 years of experience working with children.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Proficiency with computer network systems and software programs.
• Ability to use technology to enhance student learning.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
• Undergo a FDLE Level 2 background check. Florida law also requires fingerprinting and clearance through the Florida DOE Background Screening Clearinghouse for school-based positions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising learning activities and provide assistance and support to students.
• Provide instruction as prescribed by the Teacher and reinforce skills introduced by the Teacher.
• Assist the Teacher in evaluating students’ work and work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce skills according to instructional guidelines.
• Assist in managing student behavior and maintaining classroom order.
• Reinforce school and classroom rules and escort students to time-out or the Principal’s office.
• Escort, supervise, or assist students during lunch breaks, restroom visits, and other activities.
• Assist in preparing lesson plans and provide input and assistance in developing classroom activities.
• Coordinate with media center staff to obtain classroom learning resources.
• Assist with preparing classroom bulletin boards, decorations, and displays.
• Maintain student records.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
