About The Position

Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies is a regional magnet program for gifted high school students. Substitute teachers at MLWGS instruct students and facilitate their learning in the absence of the regular teacher. A mandatory VIRTUAL orientation will take place on August 20 through Microsoft Teams. This person will work alongside great teachers, get to know the students and staff, and make a difference in our community!

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary responsibility satisfactorily.
Must have a minimum of 60 college credit hours.

Responsibilities

Supervises students.
Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans.
Creates a classroom that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Maintains a safe and orderly environment.
Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures as assigned.
Maintains and reports accurate records of attendance.
Communicates clear notes on class activities conducted and student behavior to the regular teacher.
Maintains a professional appearance as an example to students.
Remains at school for the academic classes (as needed), unless otherwise instructed to leave by the Assistant Director.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintains reasonable rules of conduct that encourage self-discipline and responsibility.
Communicates effectively with students and parents when needed.
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and times designated.
Completes other duties as assigned.
