Substitute Teacher - Donald Ralph Cooke School (PRN)
About The Position
The Substitute Teacher is an on-call, as-needed employee who may be contacted the day before or early on the day of an absence. The role fills in for regular teachers who are absent for a day or longer and carries out instructional and classroom-management duties, serving as a role model for students. The Substitute Teacher follows the main school calendar and is directly responsible to the Director of Education. The position is eligible for overtime pay and pays $16.00 per hour. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse, as required by Florida law. Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Be fully qualified to instruct or teach students in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Ability to interact and relate with youth in care.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time-management skills.
- Valid Florida Driver License and ability to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.
- Successful completion of a Level 2 background screening through the FDLE Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities
- Follow detailed lesson plans and schedules assigned by the academic teacher.
- Oversee students outside the classroom, in hallways, and during transitions.
- Comply with FSYR and Cooke School policies and procedures.
- Work with youth and manage the classroom effectively.
- Take attendance and document pertinent behaviors in school notes.
- Ensure classroom cleanliness.
- Maintain flexible availability.
- Perform instructional and classroom-management duties when regular teachers are absent.
