The Maryland School for the Deaf is creating a pool of qualified substitute teacher aides for anticipated openings during the 2026–2027 school year, from September 2026 through January 2027. Substitute aides work on an as-needed, on-call basis to temporarily continue lessons planned for students at the Columbia Campus. They implement instructional programs and daily schedules as directed by teachers and comply with and support MSD regulations and policies. The school serves deaf and hard-of-hearing students from birth through age 21 in an inclusive, language-rich environment grounded in bilingual education in American Sign Language and English. Substitute teacher aides follow individual student behavior support plans, assist with daily self-care and student arrival and dismissal, supervise students during off-campus instruction, and maintain a safe environment. They must maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate strong organization, effective classroom management, written communication skills, and experience working with diverse student populations, including underserved students. New hires must undergo a criminal background investigation at their own expense and provide three letters of recommendation. Applications are prescreened before candidates are invited to interview. Staffing allocations and contractual agreements may change based on student enrollment and operational needs.
