About The Position

Applications are being taken for Secretarial/Clerical substitutes. Clerical testing is required. This position is on-call with no guarantee of hours and no benefits are offered. Secretarial/Clerical substitutes work when schools are open and will be called to work at all locations within Spokane Public Schools, so reliable transportation is important. Few, if any, substitute jobs are available during the summer months.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Some secretarial/clerical work experience.
  • Accurately type 40 words per minute.
  • Ability to work at cashier-type tasks.
  • Ability to prepare accurate statistical reports.
  • Ability to communicate orally and handle telephone inquiries.
  • Good basic office skills in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Demonstrated ability in use of Windows, WordPerfect or MS Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively and efficiently with a diverse group of students, staff, and community in a confidential manner.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • A fingerprint background check is required for all prospective employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Spreadsheet programs experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with various database programs helpful.
