About The Position

Substitute Paraeducators are needed for daily and on-call positions across various grade levels, from PreK-12th, including Post Grad Level. The role involves assisting in the instruction and supervision of students, providing academic, social, and behavioral support in inclusive, small group, individual, or sub-separate settings under the direction of a classroom teacher, special education teacher, service provider, or administrator. This position supports students with special needs by adhering to their IEPs/504 Plans and assists with various assessments. The role may require physical management, including crisis management and restraining students at risk of harm to themselves or others, following school/district-approved procedures (training provided). Responsibilities also include data collection, reporting student progress, escorting students, collaborating with educational staff, fostering a positive learning environment, assisting students with daily living tasks (eating, mobility, communication, dressing, toileting, diapering), lifting and carrying learners, promoting independence, and safeguarding confidential information in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA. General duties as assigned by teachers, principals, supervisors, the Superintendent, or per school committee policies are also expected.

Requirements

Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
Must be a Team Player, demonstrating constructive, collaborative behaviors.
Able to lift twenty-five (25) pounds occasionally and transfer heavier amounts with assistance from other staff and/or student transfer apparatus.
Good physical agility which requires frequent bending, sitting, standing, kneeling and lifting and occasional running.
Able to work in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Ability to work with a diverse group of student learners.

Nice To Haves

Pass the Para-Pro test or successfully completing 48 undergraduate credits from an accredited college or university.
Bilingual preferred (Spanish and/or Portuguese).
Bilingual (Spanish and/or Portuguese) required for EL Paras.
Prior experience with children in a school or similar setting.

Responsibilities

Assist in the instruction and supervision of students, supporting them academically, socially, and behaviorally in various settings.
Follow provisions specified in students' IEPs/504 Plans.
Assist students with test taking, including standardized and non-standardized tests and assessments.
Provide physical management, including crisis management and restraining students at risk of harm, following approved procedures.
Attend training and maintain certification in de-escalation and physical management techniques.
Collect data for individual students and report concerns and progress.
Escort and supervise students to and from school facilities.
Collaborate with special education, general education, English learner, and related service staff.
Assist in establishing a positive learning environment and respond to individual student needs.
Assist students with daily tasks such as eating, mobility, communication, dressing, and toileting, including diapering.
Lift and carry learners who need support.
Promote independence for students with disabilities.
Safeguard confidential information in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA.
Perform other general duties as assigned by teachers, principals, supervisors, or the Superintendent.
